As of Tuesday, it is illegal to play online poker in the state of Washington. I'm pretty sure Washington is the first state to explicity state this. The argument has previously been that online poker isn't illegal because it isn't really gambling. The house takes a fixed rake the rest of the money just gets transferred between players unlikesomething like roulette where you are betting against the house.
Thanks to Jim for pointing this out to me about a week ago. I closed out my account on PokerStars. I haven't played for months now. Plus I hear that XBox Live Arcade is coming out with a free (ad sponsored) poker game. You play with fake money, but I never played high stakes anyway.
For the record I made $18. According to my records (yes I kept stats on every game I played), I made about $0.20/hour. Impressive. [via Digg]
