Thank You Sony
About a year and a half ago, I signed up for a Sony credit card. You get 1% cash back in the form of Sony bucks (you can spend it on anything Sony makes.) For a while, Drexel took credit card so I was able to put my tuition on the card and make some quick money. I've used it for pretty much all my day to day purchases as well. I had saved up $420 in Sony bucks and once I heard that the PS3 would be $600 with $80 games, I decided it wasn't worth waiting for. Time for a new digital camera! If I was buying it with my own money, I'd probably go for a Cannon, but if Sony wants to buy me a camera then a Sony it will be.
I picked up the Sony DSC-W100. It an 8MP compact and so far I'm pretty happy with it. Unfortunately, it takes the stupid Sony meomory sticks, but I had enough Sony bucks leftover to grab a 1GB card. That card fills up pretty quickly with 3-4MB image files. An 8MP image is 3264x2448. Just to give you an idea of how ginormous the images are, here's a link to a picture taken from my balcony. It's a lot smaller than my old Cannon A40... about the size of an iPod but a little shorter and a little fatter.
I'm fairly happy with it so far, but we'll see how it compares my reliable old A40. I loved that camera so this new one has a lot to live up to. But even if it isn't spectacular, you can't beat the price: FREE!
[UPDATE 1:02PM] When you open large images in Internet Explorer, it will probably resize the image to make it fit your screen. To see it at it's full size again, hover your mouse over the picture until an icon appears in the lower right of the screen. Click that icon and it will expand the picture to full size.
