Crystal Mountain is Opening!
I'm doing my best to refrain from posting about skiing. But while I've publicly silent on the topic, I have been checking weather reports 4-5 times a day for the last two weeks in eager anticipation. I'm even subscribed to the Russian ski mailing list at work because they come through with some good links (even though I can't understand what they say.)
Yesterday it finally started cooling off. This morning I woke up to my radio alarm clock saying, "If you're going through the pass, be careful. It's snowing." I knew it would be a good day. I fired up all the web cams and was greeted by a blanket of fresh snow on all the local resorts. Two to seven feet is expected through the Cascades in the next week.
Just a few minutes ago, glorious news arrived via the Russian mailing list: Crystal Mountain is planning to opening on Wednesday! My schedule isn't the best for Wednesday, but I'm going to try to take a vacation day. At the very least this should leave me with a full schedule for Thanksgiving week. If you want to see some video from Crystal, they were featured in Warren Miller "Fifty" and the clip is on their site.
Waaaahooooo!!!!
[UPDATE] Mt. Baker is getting in on the action. They received 15 inches in the last 24 hours and have set a tentative opening for Thursday! The final decision will be made once the next big storm hits on Tuesday night.
