While You Were Out

I was gone for a few days on the east side of the state, so when I got back to Seattle, I hit the websites to see what I had missed at the ski resorts. There was snow. And lots of it. The picture on the right was taken at Crystal where they got 60 inches in three days. Mt. Baker has received 132 inches in the last week with the deepest base in North America. They won't even let you up to the top lift unless you're skiing with a partner. Whistler has set a record for November with 13 feet of snow creating a 65 inch base. This whole area is covered in feet and feet of snow.

I'm quickly realizing that I have a lot to learn. The only time I've skied any type of powder was the first day of our Colorado trip and that was only a foot deep. Out here I've found myself thigh/chest deep in snow, and it's like learning to ski all over again. The weight balance is different, and if you fall during a run, you're going to have a nasty hike trying to get out of the powder. There's a lot of learning to do, but I have no doubt it will be worth it.

Mmmm.... snow!
