I signed up for Blockbuster's online service this week. I had been all set to go for NetFlix, but this week, Blockbuster announced a feature called Total Access. If you choose to return your online movies to a physical store, you can rent a free movie from the store! Here's the details of the plan from my signup email:
- Return DVDs by mail OR exchange them for free in-store rentals at a local participating BLOCKBUSTER store, the choice is yours!
- Free in-store movie rentals are in addition to the number of movies out-a-time allowed on your plan, giving you double the movies at the same low monthly price.
- When you return a movie in-store, the next available item in your Queue will ship out right away.
- The store will even mail back your online DVDs for you.
- You'll continue to receive at least one e-Coupon each month to use just in case. Get your e-Coupon by logging in to MY ACCOUNT.
Reviewers say that Blockbuster has a more limited selection than NetFlix, but I was happy as I filled my queue. But then again, I don't watch a lot of independent films (other than ski movies.) All those free in store rentals sold me on the deal since I have a Blockbuster right down the street.
If you're going to sign up, use the promotion code 39537. It gives you a full month of their three-at-a-time service. Without the code you get two weeks. Once the promotion ends, I'll probably scale back to one or two DVDs at a time. I'll let you know how it goes. NetFlix is the undisputed market leader, but maybe this is just pushing Blockbuster to work harder and offer better deals.
And so I ask you, dear readers, what movies should I add to my queue?
