Fantasy Football - Week 1

It was a great opening weekend for the NFL season. There were some great games! Here are the notes and weekly awards:

  • I'm already sick of Tony Kornheiser, but on the other hand I'm not sure Mike Greenberg has the voice to be a play-by-play guy in the second game.
  • Before the seasons started, Terrell Owens promised a good year for fantasy team owners. It looks like the promise is holding true through the first week as he put up 22.20 points.
  • Drew Brees got passing yards and receiving yards on the same play. That boosted him to a grand total of almost three points for the whole game.
  • Winners this week were Ed, Tim, and Luke. Tim just barely squeaked out a victory in the waning moments of the last game on Monday night.
  • Endzone Dance Award: This award will go to the coach who scores the most points that week. This week the award goes to Helmetheads (LukeS) with 139.66 points.
  • This Isn't Golf Award: This award goes to the lowest point output for the week. This week the award goes to Kool Aid Kid (me) with 88.88 points.
  • Put Me In Coach! Award: Who benched the player with the highest point total? This week it was End Over End (Dad) who benched Tony Romo who scored 42.90 points.
  • Crystal Ball Award: This award will go to anyone who starts their optimal lineup. This means that you have gotten the maximum point value out of your team for that week. Nobody got it this week.
  • Deadbeat Award: I'm happy to announce that no one got this award this week. You'll get the award if you start a player who has a bye week.

Roster Moves
Don't like your team? Wish you had your favorite player? Your roster is not static. You can add and drop players whenever you want. With only 6 teams in our league, there are a ton of big names that are free agents. If your player happens to be taken, you can offer a trade.

Player News
You may notice a little yellow sticky note next to some players on your roster. Click that icon to read news about your player. There may also be a small letter there like P or Q if they are injured. This indicates how likely they are to play. (P is probably, Q is questionable.) If you see that, it's important to click the yellow note icon to find out if your guy is going to play. You might consider benching him and starting someone else instead.

W/R Position
The W/R spot in your roster can be filled with either a wide receiver or a running back.

Yahoo! Scoring
This week, your point totals were updated live as the game went on. Starting next week, that will cost you a one time fee of $10 for the whole season. If you don't pay for StatTracker, the scores will be updated nightly.

Congrats on a great first week of fantasy football! Don't forget to set your roster before the first game starts on Sunday. I won't be posting a reminder this week.
