Perspective on Blogging
Why do I blog? I think about this pretty much every time I start a new post. There are probably some underlying personality traits which lead to blogging, but I think it mostly boils down to one thing. I can probably count on one hand the people I communicate with every day (other than co-workers.) Blogging is my opportunity to reach a wider audience with very little extra effort. I like sharing what I'm doing, what I'm thinking, and what I'm feeling, but to speak to every single one of you every day would quickly consume my entire day. The downside to this is that it's almost entirely a one-way medium. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people after a long period of no communication and they don't realize that it's been so long since we've actual spoken. But that doesn't bother me too much because clearly I am the interesting person in our friendship. (How boring would life be if that was actually true?!)
Since the move to Seattle, there have been some new readers on the site. So perhaps this is a good time to review the two fundamental rules of blog topics. There are many posts that are purposely left unwritten because they violate these two rules:
- No blogging about dates and/or girlfriends.
- No blogging about work.
No good can come from breaking either rule.
