American Express

I'm building up a bunch of rewards on my Sony card, but there is nothing I want to buy from Sony. I'm getting tired of being tied to them every time I want to buy new electronics because most of the time, I wouldn't buy their brand if I didn't get it for free.

So it's time for a new credit card. I initially liked the idea of airline miles, but after looking at the options, I decided against it. Seattle isn't only a hub for Alaska Airlines and they don't run the routes that I fly the most.

I'm currently looking through all the different American Express cards. The leader of the pack right now is the Costco AmEx because there is no annual fee and the cashback structure fits my purchases pretty well. I think I'll end up getting a little bit more back from the AmEx than my Sony Card and I'll be free to use that money for anything I want.

The question to you, dear readers, is do you have a favorite AmEx card? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

I have one from Citibank that gives me Reward points and I can collect free stuff without annnual fees. There is one what I don't have is the Blue card. Looks interesting though.

Rachel and I have the Costco AmEx card. We like the 3% on gas (which is on top of the Costco price). We get the reward in the form of a Costco check (which I like, but Rachel doesn't). Rachel would rather go with the cash back option.

Depending on how much you charge each year and your buying habits, American Express Blue Cash may interest you.  For the first $6500 you charge each year you get 1.0% back on purchases made at supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations, and 0.5% on everything else.  Once you hit $6500 you get 5.0% back on purchases made at supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations, and 1.0% on everything else.  At the end of the year they credit your account with the reward.  I usually get on average about 2.25% back on my yearly purchases.

Thanks for the feedback! I ended up going with the Blue Cash card. I'm hoping I get something around that 2.25% number too.
