Fireplace Facade

The hole above the fireplace in the living room still bugs me. I guess you’re supposed to put your TV up there, but I think it creates a terrible viewing angle. The shelves that I built work nicely, but I’m not a huge fan of having stacks of DVDs as decoration...

2008 Year in Review

I start off every Year in Review post by reading what I wrote last year . My first thought was, "Wow, I was busy!" For 2008, I requested more of what 2007 had brought. It turns out, something better was in store, but more on that later. It's...

One Snowman To Rule Them All

On the way back from church on Sunday, Megan and Tyla spotted this monster snowman about a block north of 8th St on 164th in Bellevue. I have no idea how they pulled this off. Either there is some supporting structure underneath or they used some type...

Amazon Fresh

There’s a new affiliate of Amazon called Amazon Fresh . Actually it has been around for a year or so, but it has only recently become interesting to me because they now deliver to my house. Some interesting points about the service: Delivery is free on...

Fargo Responds

Everyday, Microsoft sends out about three or four emails telling us what services are being cancelled because of the weather. We have a small office in Fargo and they have been getting a good laugh at our inability to cope with the snow. This fake email...

Snowed In

On Saturday night, Tyla and I met up with Chelsea, Tim, Laura and Matt for a Christmas dinner at PF Chang's. We had been getting snow off and on for days and the next big storm was just starting to roll through. Tyla was staying with her parents' instead...

Christmas Parties

On Saturday, Tyla and I had the opportunity to go to two Christmas parties. Some lowland snow came in to complete the picture. The first party was our church’s Christmas party at the house of a member. They have a bunch of goats, geese and ducks on their...

Seattle Snow

Everything was shut down in Seattle yesterday because of snow. The only catch? It didn’t snow yesterday. But since the ratings-mongers on the news were leading with SNOW, DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, everything was closed. Today, everything is closed again...

Pacific Northwest Beers

When I made the trek west to Seattle, I had no idea I was heading into an area with so many great beers. If you’re ever in the area, here are a few of my favorites in no particular order: Pyramid Heffeweizen Wingwalker Amber Ale Hale's Red Menace Sleeman...

Chiropractor

A few months ago, a chiropractor came to our cafe to give us a sales pitch. Included in their sales pitch was the note that our insurance covers 100% of their work. A convenient coincidence I'm sure. I was intrigued by their electronic gadgets but skeptical...

Specialty Beers

I finally stopped into a special beer store in Redmond called Malt and Vine . I've driven by many times but this is the first time I actually stopped. They had a large selection of beers and they are all in coolers. You can even buy beer on tap to drink...

American Express

I'm building up a bunch of rewards on my Sony card, but there is nothing I want to buy from Sony. I'm getting tired of being tied to them every time I want to buy new electronics because most of the time, I wouldn't buy their brand if I didn't get it...

Ice Skating

It had been at least 3 years since I strapped on a pair of skates, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out on Friday that they still worked. Tyla and I were down at Snowflake Lane for the second time and decided to check out the ice rink. The city...

A friend from work and his brother-in-law have been working since early this year to bring quality frozen custard to Seattle. They are both Wisconsin natives and they have brought a favorite Midwest treat to the Pacific Northwest. Tyla and I headed over...
