Even though we had recently gotten back from our long road trip, for my birthday I asked my family to spend ~4.5 hours in the car for one more national park adventure. We headed up to Diablo Lake which is in the area that contains both Ross Lake National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park.
We did a hike up to an overlook with a nice view of Diablo Lake and stopped at the visitor center. We’ve been there before and even got the North Cascades stamp for Elijah’s book, but we failed to get the Ross Lake National Recreation Area stamp which was right next to it.
It was a lot of driving for a single day but it was nice to get out on one more hike. It wasn’t the perfect day since a fire in the area was adding smoke to the air. Plus, that area has become extremely popular over the years so the trail was overcrowded but we made the best of it.
