Fantasy Football – Week 9

The Seahawks had another close game, but in the end the penalties. missed field goals and broken plays because of the offensive line were too much to overcome. It has to be painful as a field goal kicker when you miss THREE field goals and your team loses by three points. Just making ONE of them could have sent them to overtime.

Our league continues to be a free-for-all. Last week, Luke had the highest team score and Andy had the lowest. This week they flipped. Tim had the second highest score in the league hinting that maybe 8th place isn’t where he will end up. With 5 games left until the playoffs are set, everyone still has a chance. Logan and Luke are still looking good with their good records and high point totals.

Deshaun Watson was the second highest scoring player in our league up until his season ending injury. Let’s take a minute to review his progress through our league:

  • Logan had him for less than 14 hours on October 4.
  • He was on Logan’s team again for one week in mid October..
  • He was on my time for a week at the end of October.

He played a total of one week in our league! I had finally made the obvious decision to start him regularly and I even picked up his favorite target (Will Fuller), and then… bam. Out for the season. I think we all deserve a face palm for missing out on all those points up until his injury.

Power rankings for week 10:

1. Logan (+1)
2. Luke (-1)
3. Austin (+1)
4. Tim (+3)

Fantasy Football – Week 8

If you take away Russell Wilson’s 30 yards of rushing, the Seahawks had 3 yards of rushing on 17 attempts. The defense allowed 544 yards of offense and gave up 38 points. Wilson also had an interception. And yet, somehow the Seahawks still got the win. The offense had some great long plays and the three picks by the defense helped as well. That game was the definition of a shootout and it was fun to see them win a nerve wracking game, but the game left me with a lot of “uh oh” feelings. A lot of stuff went wrong. Hopefully it can be corrected. Seattle has a good schedule for the next few weeks so we’ll see what they can do against some weaker/average teams.

It was painful watching the Seahawks game and knowing that while I picked up Deshaun Watson, I had him on my bench. He outscored my starting QB by 33 points, but I still picked up the win. In a much more important game, Luke defeated Dad and now has sole possession of first place. Looking at total points scored this season, Luke and Logan are far ahead of the pack. Dad, Austin and I are kind of the next clump. That’s 5 teams and there are only five spots so we’ll see how it shakes out. The other three guys could still make a run for it as well. We have six games left until the playoff roster is set. Next week’s primetime matchup is Luke (#1) vs Logan (#2).

Fantasy Football – Week 7

Why couldn’t the Seahawks have started the season this way? The defense definitely leads the way but the offense finally showed up to play, at least part way through the game.

Here’s the shocker from our league: Logan has the longest active losing streak. He’s still well out in front of everyone and his team is very strong so I don’t foresee any problems with him making the playoffs. There are now three teams tied for first (Logan, Luke and Dad.) Andy is coming up strong through the ranks with his three game winning streak. Next week’s featured matchup is Dad vs Luke. They’re both part of the three way tie for first right now.

Power rankings for week 8:

Fantasy Football – Week 6

The Seahawks had a bye week last week, but there wasn’t any shortage of NFL news including a broken clavicle for Aaron Rodgers. Fake SportsCenter had a great suggestion for a replacement QB.

In our league, Logan posted the third highest score but lost to the top score so his perfect streak is over. I consider this a bit of karma payback for his win last week with the second lowest league score. In fact, the top three teams all lost … and retained their top three positions. Things are a little tighter though with Austin and Andy tied for 4th and only one game behind Luke and Dad who are tied for second. Next week the top four teams all play each other so we’ll see how that shakes out. Please make sure you stay on top of your rosters with all the injuries and bye weeks.

Power rankings for week 7:

Fantasy Football – Week 5

The Seahawks pulled out another win against the Rams who seem to always win no matter how good either team is. The defense was outstanding pulling in 5 turnovers, some of them at critical moments in the game. The end of the game had plenty of drama but the Seahawks came out on top. They need to get that running game figured out though.

In our league, it looked like Logan might finally break his winning streak. He posted the second lowest score in the league but… Tim had the lowest score so Logan won. Luke and Dad won too, keeping them tied for 2nd place. There’s a gap back to fourth place where the rest of us are trying to figure out how to get pointed in the right direction.

Power rankings for week 6:

Fantasy Football – Week 4

Seahawks! Now THAT was a fun game to watch. I liked the up tempo pacing of their offense (even if it does screw up my 30-second skip button between plays). The downside is that it means that their defense might not get a huge rest on drives that are duds. That did turn out to be the case in the first half so I was worried that we’d see another second half defensive breakdown, but that obviously didn’t happen as the offense set a franchise record for most second half points. The injury to Chris Carson was a big blow though. He looked like their featured back for the first four games but now they have to continue the search. Hopefully Procise and Rawls can get healthy and get moving downfield.

Logan’s domination of our league continued this week as I failed to even make him nervous. Dad and Luke are tied for second place and the rest of us are lagging behind them. Tim is still searching for his first win. Could he do it against undefeated Logan?

The Yahoo draft day projections had Logan in 6th and Dad in 8th which is a great data point to show how ineffective those rankings really are. Of course MY power ranking formula is my more valuable and accurate. We have four weeks in the books so it produces some results now:

1. Logan
2. Luke
3. Austin
4. Ben

A couple important notes for our league:

  • Bye weeks start this week so make sure you have a full roster.
  • Remember that our reminder emails aren’t working anymore. If you want reminders, that feature is available from the Yahoo website and/or the phone app.

Fantasy Football – Week 3

The Seahawks are 1-2. At least they scored a touchdown AND an extra point. There were some flashes of offense but it clearly wasn’t enough. After the game, I told a Packer fan that the odds weren’t looking good for a Seahawks/Packers playoff game. The Seahawks were pretty good odds for winning the Super Bowl before the season. Kudos if you were smart enough to bet against that. I’m not saying you can predict a season from 3 games, but they clearly aren’t dominating the league early on, even against teams like the 49ers.

Our league had low scores for the first two weeks but that ended this week with almost everyone breaking 100. Logan is the last man standing with an undefeated record. I’ll take the next shot at him in Week 4.

This Week This Season All-Time
Highest Team Score Luke had 161.89 Ben had 124.88 (Week 2) Tim 200.51 (2015)

Fantasy Football – Week 2

The Seahawks got their first win of the season. Barely. Against the 49ers. That’s hardly inspiring. They also got their first touchdown of the season but we’ll keep waiting for that first extra point. It was nice to see Russell Wilson happily scrambling around though. Jimmy Graham has a total of 4 catches for 9 yards this year. Hopefully they can get him back on track and/or he can get through whatever injury is slowing him down.

In our league, all four of the undefeated teams faced each other. Logan and I came out on top so we are now the only undefeated teams left. Logan is leading our league in roster moves already this year. He has 5 and the next highest is 2. I think his mid to late season roster moves were really what set him apart last year so maybe we can gang up on him this year by being better about picking people up off waivers.

This Week This Season All-Time
Highest Team Score Ben had 124.88 Ben had 117.17 (Week 1) Tim 200.51 (2015)
Lowest Team Score Tim had 70.74 Dad had 61.50 (Week 1) Andy had 41.29 (2015)

Fantasy Football – Week 1

The Seahawks Packers game is always a favorite of mine since we have so many friends who are Packer fans. While we had fun watching with a good group of people, the game felt like kind of a dud. Neither team could really get anything going but the Packers pulled out the win. I’ll keep waiting for the first Seahawks touchdown. Maybe next week.

The first week in our league was underwhelming. There were a lot of low scores and everyone under-performed according the Yahoo prediction (which means nothing but still…) Andy, Luke, Logan and I have started down the path toward an undefeated season. Trying to remember what happened last year? Here were the final standings:

1. Logan
2. Austin
3. Andy
4. Ben
5. Tim
6. Jim
7. Dad
8. Luke

For the record book, I’ll leave last season’s stats up for a week or two.

2016 Fantasy Stats

I’m a data nerd and I love to dig into the fantasy stats a little deeper. Here are some records and stats from this season:

  • Austin had the most points this season from players that he drafted (1608.14). Tim had the least (1055.46).
  • Tim had the most points from players acquired after the draft (627.62). Luke had the least (76.1).
  • Logan made the most roster moves (37) and ended up first. Luke made the least (2) and ended up last. Hmm… the 37 roster moves by Logan were the most we’ve ever seen in one season. And the 2 moves by Luke were the least we’ve ever seen.

I did a quick calculation to see if the number of roster moves is correlated with your finishing rank. It isn’t correlated, but the average number of roster moves for teams that finish in 1st place (16) is slightly higher than the average (13) over all our previous seasons combined.

Dad asked for a rundown of our average finishes. I went back through 2012 which is when we started having the current group of teams and here’s what I came up with.

Team Average Finish Worst Finish Best Finish
Logan 2.4 6 1
Ben 3.2 4 1
Austin 3.8 8 1
Andy 4.2 7 2
Jim 5 8 2
Tim 5.2 7 3
Dad 6 8 3
Luke 6.2 8 5

And finally, here are the top players in the league for each position:
